The Women of Thrones.

I have been a massive fan of Game of Thrones since the very first season, but this is probably the only season I have finally been happy with the portrayal of the majority of the female characters. The women of the show have finally been able to be the dominant characters, rather than being left in the shadows as either an object of desire or some other weakling character.

The show and its showrunners, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, have been called out for the use or under-use of their female characters in the series for years, and this season feels like those criticisms have finally been heard. These promises were to make sure that characters, such as Sansa were going to get more to do than just be a pretty cavalcade for the males.

I do not want to reveal Spoilers in this post, but I am finally glad to see Sansa become an independent and strong willed Woman. Since the beginning of the show, she was a somewhat annoying and stuck up little girl, then she was abused, and now she is finally a strong independent woman. This is wonderful to see, as it allows viewers to see the development of a character after such difficulty. It may have taken her a long time to get to this point, but I cannot wait now to see what the future hold for Sansa Stark.

The Mother of Dragons, Daenerys. Once again she was an abused victim, however now she is a real contender for the Iron Throne. I love that she continues to grow and develop, season after season, I just cannot wait for her to come over to Westeros and see what happens.

Overall, Game of Thrones still has a long way to go to make true equality for women in the show. However, there has been a switch in power, from the men of Westeros to the women, and it feels like this change has been brewing for quite some time. I cannot wait to see what the future holds for the women of Westeros.

What do you think about the portrayal of women in Game of Thrones?
