Whilst scrolling through social media a few days back, I came across a post suggesting that Cafe Mickey was soon to be no more. It stated that from March 2017, Cafe Mickey would not only close for refurbishment, it would actually close completely and be rebranded to something un-Disney. Even though the rumour of character dining at Café Mickey was ending, the new rumour of rebranding is quite shocking.
However, after a long while of calming down and contemplation, I realised that it may not be in the best interest of Disneyland Paris to rebrand and change Café Mickey. As it is one of the busiest restaurants in the park, for both breakfast, lunch and dinner, where without a booking it is unlikely you will eat there, why Disneyland Paris would want to lose that revenue is beyond me. It is also currently the only ‘affordable’ character dining within the resort. Despite rumours of the character dining moving back to Plaza Gardens, which is currently the only in-park lower tier half-board restaurant.
With the introduction of Vapiano in Disney Village later this year, why would Disney want to let another company in, and gain only some revenue for a restaurant in prime location, than actually have their own restaurant… it just confuses me.
However, as I am yet to experience Café Mickey, I am unsure whether this rumour of a rebranding, would be positive. Therefore I am holding out all of my opinions until I have visited. But like anything Disneyland Paris related, I am sure we will have to wait and see what happens.
How do you feel about the rumour?
Do you think it is likely that Café Mickey will have a rebranding?
